Why You’re Measuring the Wrong Things
🔄 The Silent Productivity Killer I Didn’t Believe In
I used to think “context switching” was just a trendy buzzword — the kind of thing productivity gurus say to juice engagement or sell their latest time-blocking template.
But recently, I had one of those uncomfortable realizations: I’m always doing it. And it’s wrecking my momentum.
A typical day looked like this: - Record a podcast episode - Reply to coaching emails - Check analytics - Answer a Discord message - Start writing a YouTube script - Back to email again… wait, what was I doing?
Each switch seemed small, even productive — but the real cost was in the mental reset. I was burning energy every time I jumped from one thing to another. It wasn’t multitasking… it was momentum-killing.
So I’ve started grouping my time into focus blocks. When I’m scripting — that’s all I’m doing. When I’m coaching — I’m all-in. When I’m with my family — no tabs open in my mind.
It’s not perfect. But it’s made me sharper, calmer, and surprisingly faster.
If you’re feeling scattered or stuck lately, check your context switching. It might be the hidden thief stealing your best work.
🎯 Are You Measuring the Right Things?
My daughter starts her big state testing next week. She’s been studying and prepping — and as her dad, I’m proud of how seriously she’s taking it.
But here’s the thing…
We talked about how frustrating it can feel to be tested on things that don’t reflect what you’re actually good at. And it got me thinking…
Isn’t that exactly what we do in business sometimes?
We obsess over metrics that look good, but don’t mean anything: - Subscriber count - Follower growth - Total views
Those numbers might boost our ego… but they don’t tell the whole story.
The metrics that matter? - Click-through rate - Average view duration - Time on site - Comments and shares - Actual conversions
Just like my daughter’s testing doesn’t capture her creativity or character, those surface-level business stats don’t always reflect true growth.
This week, ask yourself: Are you chasing numbers that matter — or just numbers that look nice on paper?
🗣️ Quote of the Week
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” — Mark Twain
It’s simple, it’s old school — and it’s 100% true. Especially in a world where it’s easier than ever to get stuck in planning, tweaking, and comparing… This is your reminder: just start.
📚 Book of the Week
The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom
I'm still reading this book and love it.
In the book, Sahil breaks down wealth into five core categories:
- Financial - Social - Physical - Mental - Time
The part that stuck with me was his take on financial freedom — not in the “buy a Lambo” sense, but in the ability to make decisions without money being the primary factor. That kind of freedom? That’s real wealth.
He writes about designing a life where money supports your values, not replaces them. And as entrepreneurs, it’s a reminder we often need: we’re not building a business just to grow… we’re building one so we can live.
Highly recommend grabbing this one. It’s short, punchy, and full of perspective shifts.
