Why Playing It Safe Might Be Slowing You Down
The Upside of Risk
If I’m being honest, most of the good things in my business haven’t come from playing it safe.
They came from risks.
Not reckless risks — but bold ones. Calculated moves that scared the heck out of me at the time. Starting my podcast, launching a YouTube channel, offering coaching, and building a course. Every one of those started as something I was hesitant to try, afraid I wasn’t “ready” or that I’d mess it up.
And spoiler alert: sometimes I did mess it up.
I’ve launched things that flopped, ideas that fell flat, and offers that went ignored. But looking back, the most meaningful growth I’ve had has come on the other side of fear.
That fear—of—failure, of judgment, of wasting time—is usually a sign I’m actually on the right path. Because it means I care. It means it matters.
So if you’re sitting on an idea, delaying a pivot, or holding back from doing something new in your business because you’re scared of what might go wrong… I get it.
But I’d challenge you to consider: what if it does work?
Or better yet, what if it leads to something even better than you originally planned?
Take the risk. Learn fast. Adjust. Then do it again.
That’s how we grow.
Stand Out By Showing Up
These days, standing out in business isn’t about flashy branding, clever tricks, or trying to go viral.
It’s about being human.
I've noticed something as I’ve been going through my week — at my kids’ school, church, running errands, and working with clients. It’s never been easier to stand out. Not because people are doing more… but because so many people have stopped doing the basics.
We live in a world where patience is rare, kindness feels optional, and follow-through is almost surprising.
But here’s the good news: you can build a reputation just by doing what you said you’d do.
Be honest.
Show up when you say you will.
Deliver what you promised.
Care about people.
That’s it. That’s the bar. And yet — that’s enough to be unforgettable.
As a content creator, coach, and business owner, I’ve learned that trust travels faster than tactics. Your character is your brand.
If you’re looking for an edge, start there.
What I’m Reading: The Five Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom
I’m still working through The Five Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom — and this week, I hit a section that really hit me.
It was all about physical wealth.
We often hear “wealth” and immediately think of money. Revenue. Net worth. But Sahil reframes the whole concept — and this section on physical wealth reminded me how easy it is to overlook our most valuable asset: our health.
If you’ve known me for any length of time, you know I’m already pretty disciplined when it comes to workouts and movement. But this chapter pushed me deeper. It’s not just about exercise — it’s about fueling your body well, getting real rest, and treating your physical self as a long-term investment.
Your body is the engine behind everything you create, serve, and build.
Take care of it like your business depends on it — because it does.
